Concluding that the freer the society the less interested women are in the likes of engineering and technology. Therefore, are we trying to encourage girls/young women into a career they might not find as rewarding and fulfilling as we claim, to pursue a broader and more political agenda? In the 40+ years I have been a member of the ICE they have endeavoured to balance the genders in the profession with little success. After all the author of this editorial appears to have given-up hands-on engineering after just 2.5 years from graduating to pursue a journalistic career of almost 21 years. So how should we be communicating to women about careers in engineering? Just a thought.
