While it is clear that changes are necessary to protect our climate and environment, I find that such radical actions are not the right answer, and the chaos they cause is certainly not beneficial. The calls to stop using oil, cement and other “environmentally damaging” materials is not realistic, and in the short term would only lead to an increase in imports in my opinion. Thankfully there are many civil engineers involved in worthwhile research into more evironmentally friendly materials which can eventually reduce our depence on “climate-damaging” materials. I regard such efforts as more positive than radical protests, and it is here that NCE can play an important role in publicising new developments.
